Cookies

Last updated 18 August 2026. This page explains what cookies are on route-maphub.digital, which ones we set, and how to refuse the ones that are not required.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site can store on your device, or similar storage such as localStorage. They can remember a choice, keep a session together, or help a publisher count visits. They are not programmes, and rejecting non-essential cookies does not lock the curriculum pages.

Types we use

Essential storage remembers whether you accepted or rejected cookies so the banner does not return on every page load. That memory lives in localStorage under the key routeMaphub_cookieConsent. Analytics cookies, if you accept, would only measure aggregate visits to help us see which essays are read. We do not run advertising cookies. Rejecting analytics leaves every programme page, form, and journal essay usable.

Cookie table

Name Purpose Duration Provider
routeMaphub_cookieConsent Stores Accept or Reject so the banner can stay dismissed. Essential for remembering your choice. Until you clear site data or choose again Route Maphub (first party, localStorage)
rmh_atlas_visit Optional analytics count of whether the Analytics Atlas was opened in a session. Set only after Accept. Session Route Maphub (first party)
rmh_read_journal Optional analytics flag that a journal essay was opened. Set only after Accept. 7 days Route Maphub (first party)

How to manage or disable cookies

On first visit the banner offers Accept and Reject with equal weight. Reject records your choice and does not load optional analytics. To change your mind later, clear this site’s data in your browser (often under Privacy or Site settings) and reload; the banner will appear again. You can also block cookies entirely in the browser, which may forget the banner choice and show it more often, without blocking reading or enquiry.

Third-party cookies

We load typefaces from Google Fonts. Google may process the request for the font files according to its own policies. Embedded images from Unsplash or Pexels are requested from those hosts when a page includes a photograph; those hosts may set their own cookies or logs. We do not control that storage. Avoiding those requests means browsing with images blocked, which the site still allows at a text level.

Impact of disabling

Rejecting analytics does not hide programmes, prices, or the contact form. It only means we will not set the optional visit flags. Blocking all cookies may cause the banner to reappear. Essential pages remain available. More detail on personal data sits in the privacy notice.
